But around here it’s like it’s still going on.” Explain why the war is “still going on” in parts of the American south drawing from specific evidence and elements of Horwitz’s journalism and cultural analysis in the reading selection. You also have the option of supplementing your ideas with specific evidence and ideas from additional publications.

Honors "Civil War" Prompt
The Civil War is often known as the beginning of "modern" America or America's "second revolution." Evaluate at least one of these ideas in the form of a well-researched and thoughtful magazine column. Imagine that you are writing for an educated modern audience. Your audience knows some history, appreciates a good intellectual discussion, wants to learn a little, and wants to stay up on current events. Your audience reads publications like The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Weekly Standard and more.
